The brooding ghost is Great King Nolin himself!

^"Oooh! I can find no rest," he wails, "for such shame I have weighing upon me!"
^Durin crafted a mighty gemstone, the Naugdir, and set it in the anvil of his Great Chamber, it's
power was said to keep at bay the darkness of the deep places of the world and allowed all his
folk to delve as they willed.
^I, his woebegotten descendent, coveted his power and usurped his wisdom. Taking for my own
glory the Naugdir, placing it in the pommel of my axe haft. Great in battle and majesty I became.
Vanity! Greater still was the power of death and time, over which no mortal has dominion. Not
even a Great King such as I. Would that I had been greater in wisdom than battle.
^For the legends were true and with the Naugdir taken from its rightful place darkness began to
hold sway in the mines. Then came His great Bane... Shadow and Flame!
^With the Naugdir buried at my side doom came to Khazad-dum! Now the Naugdir itself is lost.
Carried away by the scuttling creatures of darkness. It lies now, I do not know where.
^If only the Naugdir could be found and replaced in Durin's anvil. Perhaps then these halls, once the
greatest of my folk, could look toward better times and I could find rest.
